In Runescape Classic Looking Forward

Not a very interesting story, but a story none the less.

Just kind of reminiscing over what this game has been, and what it is today. I haven't played in about 2 years, so I still haven't even picked everything up yet. But wow, all the new stuff. I don't even recognize items anymore. I don't even recognize myself, everything is so new looking.

I miss the days when f2p worlds were constantly buzzing, maybe even more busy than members worlds. When Castle Wars first came out and I begged my mom to buy my membership. Wow.

I'm 22 now. 3 year old son, daughter due in January. Plan to be married next year. I've become an "adult" or something, I think. Hideous thought.

I started this game, if I can remember, in Runescape Classic. I was too young to really understand the game, just kinda walked around and picked up the earth rune in Lumbridge castle. My best friend's older brother had helped me create my account and stuff, then kind of left me to it.

I wasn't around when Rs2 first came out, but I was there soonafter. I remember I got lost at the dwarven mines, at the entrance north of Fally. (I prefer to use the shortened versions, just like everyone did back then: Varry, Fally, Lummy, Ardy, Cammy, etc) Im aware thats it's hip to use their real names nowadays. I disagree.

After I found my way to falador some days later, I worked diligently earning massive amounts of gp (3,000 in total) by smithing bronze armor and selling it to the general store. I was around 11 I think, it was good times.

Does anyone remember how cool general stores used to be? Large groups of people sitting around watching to see if anything good showed up. Store prices were always way cheaper than street prices, but sometimes somebody wanted some quick cash. Dmed helms, uncut gems, and rune armor pieces were among the most common rares. And of course there was always a stack of bows that fletchers had to drop off, somewhere.

There was a stranger who had helped me navigate some, and I bothered him as much as I could. Why, I dont know, but he stuck around. 10 years and one social media later, and we still keep in touch. He was older and more proficient with his time, and pretty soon he was able to smith armor I couldn't even wear yet. But what was neat, was that he could always provide the equipment for me whenever I leveled up.

First time I quit, probably around level 30, and that was when Gilded armor first came out. I remember I was chasing after a guy om Karamja to get a picture of his full suit, and accidentally attacked a guy in the jungle with his poisoned spear. Soon as I realised what I had done, I logged out as soon as I could. I had a schoolmate add my mentoring-friend and contact him, and he showed up with some anti-poison as soon as I logged in. That whole process took about 3 months before I could log on and get help, so I had a nice break.

In 5th grade, I remember this game got really popular in my school and most of my classmates were playing (2004-2005) I was level 76 at the time, and the highest level in my school. I became the mentor and made all kinds of stuff for everybody at school who was just starting or needed direction. Wow good times.

All this time I was playing on Dial-up internet, and around the time we first got the "hd" upgrade, was when the internet became insufficient to hold a steady connection. Don't remember exactly when this was, but it was around my sophomore year in highschool. Thats when I quit for at least 2 years, solid. That's when a lot of the big changes were really coming into play and I wasn't around to stay with the game I loved so much. Highschool issues and college applications and life and girlfriends and my son, who I'd eventually make a family with.

I totally feel for this post. I am the same age and went through an almost identical timeline haha. I had started right around the time Rs2 came out. i was a low level, and id would walk around picking up random monster drops from people killing various goblins, farmers, cows and the occasional unicorn drop left behind. i remember finding a few uncut gems and a magic staff one day and i absolutely could not believe it. i was ecstatic! i mean, an uncut diamond? that had to be worth something right?

It was at that point i had met three very iconic individuals in my runescape playing time. one was a good friend, he was around my level but he was much older then me. he was big into mining, and like your mentor, he would give me his old ores/bars/armores he had smithed for me to have. i would smith what i could, wear what i could and sold all the rest to the general store in vary, trying to make enough for a mithril 2h sword, the best weapon i could use at the moment.

Then one day i met someone that changed the game for me. he had been helping me out little by little here and there, and then one day, he gave me 104k! i had never had more then 10k at once before(i had found the 10k on the ground one day) he had given me the 104k to buy armor to go pking with him, out in the wildy, something i had never done before.

I remember having to run around to each city to buy gear, vary for my sword and my chest piece, barb village for my Smith helm, fall for my shield and my legs i got form the gen store in fally. i was finally ready to go pking in the wild with my buddy. i banked the 95k i had left, and got some trout and salmon from the river by barb village, back when people would power fish and cook with the one tree there, and just drop them for every1 to grab.

It was not long before i was crossing the wildy in a train with my friend and his 2 friends. we got to the castle just past edgy when i was attacked by a mage, and had gotten wrecked in about 4 hit

It was tragic and the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me at the time. that remaining 95k had lasted me a very long time. mostly being spent and loss by dropping items everytime i had died, which had been quite often.

At this point, i had started mining and woodcutting pretty steadily. I was grinding out willow logs over in draynor, and had finally found a decent way to make money for my level. my levels started to slowly rise, and i could finally use rune(around 2003-2004) and this is when i had finally begged my parents as well to get me membership! i immediately went to castle wars, and spent months there, finally being able to use granite maul(but not being able to afford it lol) i was having a great time.

Then the pvp/free trade limit update had happened. and a good 75% of the people i played with had quit. but i stuck through, continued to do castle wars, and got to meet the third iconic person. One of the first people to get a god sword after GWD had came out. He was a big fan of the Zammy portal in CW and he carried our teams for a month straight. allowing me to finally afford some of the reward armored from castle wars! at this point i was in junior high and was starting to level progressively, i started training range and quickly had 70 range, for those black dragon hides and to use the magic short bow.

Around this time was when the game had started rapidly changing. there were graphical updates, new bosses added, a ton of new quests, new mini games like bounty hunter, fist of guthix, stealing creations, and then even pvp/bounty hunter worlds. going "revenant" hunting was now common activity, and with a team was even able to knock down some dragons and dark beasts/knights.

Being able to solo a revenant orc with ease, and with the price of dragon bones rising to almost 6k ea, i had started killing green dragons for money and to train. and this is where i started making money in this game. i had made my very first Mil!

Runescape Skillers - PvE vs Wildy

Jagex for the love of god, please stop turning skillers into pinatas for pkers, that's all pkers do anymore, go after skillers. They even hijack penguin search friend chats, and now with this upcoming update, we have to do an entire task set in the wildy.
